Laurence Blyth studied the organ with the late Kenneth Ryder (with the support of a scholarship from the Diocese of Norwich), attended Norwich School and was a choral scholar in Truro Cathedral Choir.
He read music at Exeter, (supported by awards from both the University and Cathedral) directed the University Singers, and graduated in 2007. He was subsequently awarded a postgraduate place at the Royal Welsh College of Music in Drama in Cardiff to study with Simon Halsey, Adrian Partington and Neil Ferris, supported by the Busenhart Morgan-Evans Foundation and the EMI Music Sound Foundation. At RWCMD, he also conducted in masterclasses with Simon Halsey, Edward Caswell, Peter Broadbent, Sarah Tenant-Flowers, Eric Whitacre, John Butt and Robert Dean. Laurence is the director of three unauditioned choral societies in Devon and Somerset, regularly preparing and directing inspiring performances of repertoire including Bach St John Passion, Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem and modern works by composers such as Eric Whitacre, Morten Lauridsen and George Shearing.
